The inaugural Calgary Run For Water will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Eau Claire (Eau Claire aptly meaning “clear water”). It promises to be a high-quality 10K running and 5K run/walk event designed to raise awareness and funds for HOPE International Development Agency’s clean water projects in the Bonke region of Southern Ethiopia.

DID YOU KNOW?
FACT: Over 40,000 people die every week for lack of clean water; the majority of those are children under the age of 5.
FACT: Every 15 seconds, a child dies from a water-borne disease.
FACT: Roughly 80% of Ethiopians require improved drinking water facilities.
We invite you to check out this incredible 20 minute video called “A Thirst for Africa”. Peg Peters from Abbotsford Run for Water travels to Ethiopia with his twelve-year old daughter. Through their visits to communities with and without access to clean water, they begin to understand how it can be the answer to nearly every development issue an impoverished community faces: health, education, financial security, peace, human rights and gender equality.
HOW MUCH MAKES A DIFFERENCE?
FACT: $35 means one more person drinks clean water for life
$650 means two families can receive clean water and all of its benefits
$25,000 means an entire village can receive clean water for life
$160,000 means a capped spring and pipeline in southern Ethiopia

Calgary Run for Water is a run by passionate group of individuals eager to make a difference. Its directors are long-term residents of Calgary with diverse occupations (CGA, lawyer, executives, educators and business professionals…) and personal experiences (notably, the Chair has had the special privilege of adopting children from Ethiopia).
